The presentation by Alison Kobayashi reflected an interesting and creative view on how one might analyze an old recording, without knowing any of the people on the recording. Deep listening definitely came into play when hearing the recording because of how many voices were recorded at once and without knowing any of the individuals. Deep listening allowed Kobayashi to look for any sound that differentiates the family members and to distinguish the setting of the family. To further comprehend the voices on the recording, Kobayashi created an interesting approach to bringing in actual people to play the role of each family member. This created a visual understanding of what might have been occurring during the recording even though no one was there, other than the actual family members.
