The presentation by Alison Kobayashi reflected an interesting and creative view on how one might analyze an old recording, without knowing any of the people on the recording. Deep listening definitely came into play when hearing the recording because of how many voices were recorded at once and without knowing any of the individuals. Deep listening allowed Kobayashi to look for any sound that differentiates the family members and to distinguish the setting of the family. To further comprehend the voices on the recording, Kobayashi created an interesting approach to bringing in actual people to play the role of each family member. This created a visual understanding of what might have been occurring during the recording even though no one was there, other than the actual family members. The aspect of losing and rescuing meaningful histories through the use of media is played by Kobayashi in her attempt to recreate the storyline on the recordings and filming the project and the reactions...

Blog 3: Relationships Between Shots

A short skit I chose, comes from youtubers that are known for their editing techniques that include match action, the 180 degree rule, jump cuts, graphic matches and eyeline matches all in a form of a montage. Using all these techniques of filming and editing makes these videos entertaining and unique. The video begins with an image of a comment in a computer and uses graphic match to transition from the image to the image appearing on the characters laptop with the character behind him. After, it transitions to a wide shot, showing his other two friends having a conversation around a table. This scene implements the 180 degree rule where they use 3 cameras behind the 180 degree line and switching shots from face to face while one is talking and the others thinking. They also use eyeline matches where each scene their eyes are leveled and show what each character is looking at during close up shots. The next scene shows various match action cuts between scenes. Such as the character ...

Assignment 2: "What I Hear"

Overall, the texture of the sound is very chaotic, with a combination of wind passing the tall buildings, cars speeding by and the subways sound of metal like roller coasters. The specific instruments caused by this would be primarily the cars and people all around. The sound of cars and sirens sometimes drown the activities of the people because they are so immense. Trucks and trailers hitting potholes making their cargo move and you can sometimes hear the subways running underneath while walking. People beeping in cars while people walk like herds of animals trying to get to their destination. Another specific instrument were bikes which you can hear ringing and peddling. In crowded areas, you can hear people speaking in English laughing or just talking while heading towards grand central and walking around, you can hear many other languages especially from Europe and Chinese or Mandarin. In the middle of Manhattan especially, I noticed more women with heels because of the co...

Artist Statement

My work consists of entertainment that admires everyday life through a lens of animation and real life that people can identify with. These scenes captured will reflect a humorous point of view that will lighten an audience. This will guide the audience towards a virtual world that separates them from fear of the real world. Furthermore, I will focus on animation and video games to create a genre that will imitate cartoons, such as bringing a character from a video game to life and having him describe his perspective of what it is like to be in a video game. Combining animation and vlogging will be an interesting approach to ultimately create a unique type of media. Youtube has been a huge influence towards my work where there are thousands of different creative content that change how people see the world. Watching people play and commentate over video games has influenced me in wanting to create similar content and portray my own version. Video games have been a huge part of my life ...
