Blog 3: Relationships Between Shots
A short skit I chose, comes from youtubers that are known for their editing techniques that include match action, the 180 degree rule, jump cuts, graphic matches and eyeline matches all in a form of a montage. Using all these techniques of filming and editing makes these videos entertaining and unique. The video begins with an image of a comment in a computer and uses graphic match to transition from the image to the image appearing on the characters laptop with the character behind him. After, it transitions to a wide shot, showing his other two friends having a conversation around a table. This scene implements the 180 degree rule where they use 3 cameras behind the 180 degree line and switching shots from face to face while one is talking and the others thinking. They also use eyeline matches where each scene their eyes are leveled and show what each character is looking at during close up shots. The next scene shows various match action cuts between scenes. Such as the character getting up to turn off the alarm and laying back down. Cutting in between the action of laying down and starting another scene of him actually getting up from his bed. Then it transitions to jump cuts where the character begins doing his morning routine while it uses jump cuts to show the character's action. The rest of the video also uses match action, where the character does an action and cuts to a scene where the action is accomplished. Such as flipping a roll of paper towels and cutting to a scene where the roll of paper lands upright. Another example is when he throws a cup and cuts to a scene where the shattered broken cup is being thrown away. Overall, all of these actions are filmed in the form of a montage where he cuts from scene to scene showing a continuous action of his everyday routine.
